I am your Messi, kick me out and your defeat in 2024 is assured – Chairman Wontumi to NPP
The governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman has warned that if delegates vote him out in the next regional elections, the party will suffer significantly in the region.
Mr Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, claims that removing him as regional chairman will have an impact on the party’s electoral hopes in the 2024 general elections.
Chairman Wontumi, who compared his performance in Ashanti Region to Lionel Messi of PSG, said if is booted out at the regional elections, the NPP will surely be back into opposition.
“My withdrawal from the region will be like Messi leaving Barcelona, which has resulted in the team’s diminishing fortunes,” he said in an interview on Accra’s Neat FM. The team has been falling behind its contemporaries since Messi’s departure from Barcelona. Adding, “So my exit will affect the fortunes of the NPP in the region.”
Chairman Wontumi stated that he became the party’s regional chairman while the party was in opposition.
He stated that he fought hard to restore the party to power in 2016 and to keep it there in 2020.
As a result, those intending to run against him lack the political clout needed to win the region for the NPP.
He revealed that “These are people who do not have the capacity to continue from where I’ll leave the party if the delegates take a decision to vote against me”.
