CPP wants August 4 scrapped as Founders Day and Nkrumah only celebrated as Founder
The Convention Peoples Party (CPP) which is Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s own party in commemoration of his memorial day seized the opportunity to celebrate and extoll his ideas.
The CPP however argued that there is a deliberate attempt to distort Ghana’s history and it would go at any length to rectify such distortions according to Nana Yaa Jantuah, General Secretary for the party.
She also revealed that CPP as a party seeks legal redress to cancel the 4th August holiday describing it as a nuisance holiday.
Ghana as a country has always been faced with this argument as to whether it was Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah alone who gained independence for Ghana or the people who also contributed to Ghana achieving this feat should be remembered as well.
But to Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s CPP, they believe Osagyefo is a colossus in the history of Ghana whose contribution to Ghana gaining independence unmatched and he shares that glory with no one.
Hence their argument that the August 4 holiday which is the Founder’s Day should be scrapped.
