Kumasi Asante Kotoko has pulled out of the Ghana League Clubs Association, GHALCA Top 6 tournament less than a month before the kick-off of the pre-season tournament.

The tournament which is set to start on August 14 to 31 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi will go on without the Ghana Premier League champions who were set to play against Medeama SC, Bechem United, Karela United, Great Olympics and Hearts of Oak in the 6-team tournament.

Kotoko announced in a tweet today, July 21 that it has officially notified GHALCA of its decision to pull out of the tournament. The decision to pull out, the club says is purely based on sporting reasons.

“We have this afternoon written officially to GHALCA, informing the welfare body of our decision not to partake in this year’s Ghalca Top Six tournament. Our decision was purely based on sporting reasons,” Kotoko tweeted.

The news of the withdrawal comes less than 24 hours after news broke that head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has resigned from his role at the club.
