ACEPA Directors Cries Foul Over Asiedu Nketiah Appointment, Calls For Change In Such Appointments

Executive Director of African Centre for Parliamentary Affairs (ACEPA) Ghana, Dr Rasheed  Draman has expressed worry over Asiedu Nketiah appointment unto the Parliamentary Service Board. In his opinion, it is high time political parties leave such slots on the board for technical people who will use their expertise to help Ghana as a whole.

He expressed his opinion during an interview on TV3 Midday News and monitored by myactiveonline.com. And his expressions came after the recent appointment of the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah to the Parliamentary Service Board.

The NDC’s chief scribes appointment did not go down without a debate and even a clash between Speaker of parliament Rt Hon Alban Bagbin and Majority leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu .

The speaker argued that, the New Patriotic Party’s Hackman Owusu Agyeman was on the previous board so nothing makes appointing Johnson Asiedu Nketiah unto board any different citing. He pointed out that “what is good for the goose is also good for the gander.”

But Executive Director for ACEPA Dr Rasheed Draman said though there is no problem with the appointment of Mr Asiedu Nketiah unto the  board it will amount to business as usual  since we might not see the desired change.

He further accused the two major political parties of committing the same mistakes and advised them to appoint technical people unto the board rather.

The Parliamentary Service Board makes regulations prescribing the terms and conditions of service of officers and other employees for the effective and efficient administration of the Service.

Also, the Board appoints the Clerk to Parliament and other members of staff of the Service in consultation with the Public Services Commission.
