Abronye DC granted GHS100,000 bail, case adjourned to March 9
The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC, has been granted a GHC100, 000 bail after he was arrested for alleging that former President John Mahama wast planning a coup d’etat.
The court also directed him to deposit his passport and a valid national identification card at the Circuit Court registry.
Abronye DC alleged that former President John Dramani Mahama was planning with Al Qaeda to topple the incumbent government. The statement was subsequently found to be untrue and this has led to his invitation by the police.
Counsel for the NPP firebrand, Anthony Namong, in his appeal argued that the accused is known in the public space, with two permanent places of abode, and thus will subject himself to the court processes anytime he’s needed.
On Wednesday, February 16, 2022 State prosecution did not oppose the bail application at the hearing such that after listening to the parties, the judge, Adelaide Abui Keddy, noted that the case was a misdemeanour and accordingly granted him bail.
The court further directed that the prosecution files disclosures and witness statements within two weeks.
The case has been adjourned to March 9 2022.
At the hearing were some leading members of the NPP, including National Chairman Freddie Blay, General Secretary John Boadu, and National Youth Organizer Henry Nana Boakye.
