Persons who are yet to register their SIM cards have been warned by the National Communication Authority not to wait till the last minute to do so.

The Authority maintains that it will go by its scheduled deadline and would not hesitate to block SIM cards that are yet to be registered.

Already some punitive actions are being meted out to persons who are yet to register their SIM cards and that started on 5th September 2022.

By 30th September 2022, the SIM cards of those who have not registered will be blocked, Director for Consumer and Corporate Affairs at the NCA, Kwame Gyan, said during an interview on Citi FM that.

“Hopefully, people will realise that we mean business because now if we are blocking people for not registering when we tell you that we are going to take you off the network from 1st October, you should know that can happen and indeed, it will happen.”

He reiterated that more sanctions are coming for those who do not yield to their advice.

He then complained that the minister’s announcement of the extension of registration exercise made people leave the queues they were already in to register and since then some are yet to come back and register.

Also, the number of persons who turn up to register their sims dropped by 98%.

According to the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications, as of August 20, 2022, only 5,861 persons had done the biometric capturing for the re-registration exercise, as compared to that of July 28th when over 235,000 had registered, two days before the extension was announced.
