Evangelist Mama Pat alias Nana Agradaa

Victims of the money-doubling scam involving controversial self-styled evangelist Patricia Asiedua alias Nana Agradaa have come out to state that they were not consumed by greed.

They maintained that the self-styled evangelist manipulated them with her money-doubling antics.

Following the alarm raised by members of her church regarding her antics which did not work out for them, the police apprehended her on Sunday.

Currently, she is being accused of using pretence to defraud people and running charlatanic adverts on TV and in the newspaper to tempt unsuspecting victims.

One of those who fell for this trick though blames himself for falling for such a scam and wants his money back and recounts that during the service, Nana Agradaa looked so unassuming so he could not believe she could do this to them.

The Ghana Charismatic Bishops Conference on the other hand wants Nana Agradaa to be dealt with if found guilty.

Rev Kwesi Deh, General Secretary of the Ghana Charismatic Bishops Conference wants the law to take its cause by clamping down on such characters that commit crimes using the name of God.

“It is possible for people in the name of religion to commit crime and fraud. Thank God Ghana is a very civilized society and there are laws governing all these crimes. Therefore, I think that the laws should deal with this issue.”

Though the issue of strictly regulating the activities of churches in the country was not agreed on by the Ghana Charismatic Bishops Conference.

Rev Deh though admitted that even though most churches go according to the rules there are some charlatans in the system and with the situation of regulation they do not have a problem with it but how the regulation will go to the extent of spelling out to them how they should practice is what they do not agree on.

To him, the money doubling scandal is not a situation that should bring about the issue of regulation of churches as it is not a religious action.
