We need serious actions to stop illegal mining – Okudzeto Ablakwa
Legislator for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa called for pragmatic steps in dealing with illegal mining following the commencement of the trials of Chinese ‘galamsey’ kingpin Aisha Huang.
Mr Ablakwa claimed some details of the case are “muddier and murkier than the water bodies she Aisha Huang and her accomplices have destroyed”.
He said checks within the health facilities in the enclaves where illegal mining takes place show the health of the people is seriously affected by this act. He said, “this issue of illegal mining is mass murder and should be considered a such”.
Assessing the situation further, Mr Ablakwa indicated that these notorious illegal miners have declared war on the lands, ripping apart everything. He added that it is about time Ghana radically deals with those engaged in it by also involving the Ghana Military to declare war on them to keep them at bay since other ways of dealing with them have not yielded the desired results.
