We have no laws to prosecute NAM1 – EOCO boss Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah
Executive Director of the Economic and Organized Crimes Office, Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo Danquah has revealed that the state is unable to prosecute the CEO of Menzgold due to lack of relevant laws.
Speaking at a forum organized by the Ashanti Professional Club, Maame Tiwaa stated that it is becoming difficult for her office to take any prosecutorial actions against the gold dealership firm CEO, Nana Appiah Mensah.
She said that although her office are most times aware of people committing crime, it becomes a daunting task to prosecute them because identifying the laws they broke is very difficult.
“An example is the Menzgold case. Which Act did he break? And it is becoming difficult even prosecuting that case because no law will define the offense” she said.
NAM1’s case is still pending after the state charged the CEO of several crimes and freezing his company’s accounts. The case now has 16 adjournments since 2019. State prosecution is waiting on recommendations from the Attorney General.
NAM1 is facing 14 charges in the suit including the Carrying on a deposit without License, Defrauding by false pretence, Abetment of crime, amongst others.
