We are not serious in the fight galamsey – Kwame Jantuah
Lawyer Kwame Jantuah, Chief Executive Officer of Africa Energy Consortium Limited said if Ghana wants to win the war against illegal mining, the Chiefs in the community must take up the pressure to fight the menace that is affecting them.
Contributing to the discussion on issues surrounding illegal mining on TV3, he questioned the commitment of some authorities in handling the issue stating that “we are pussy footing around it”.
Lawyer Jantuah further entreated authorities to see the issue of illegal mining as a war on Ghana.
He then added that “we are destroying our country with this galamsey and squandering the future of the young ones”.
Mr Jantuah said Ghana’s neighbour Cote d’Ivoire has started complaining about how their rivers are being affected by illegal mining from some parts of Ghana. He added that “we are not serious as a country in dealing with galamsey”.
As a means to tackle the situation, he called on President Akufo-Addo to show leadership in this galamsey fight and also called on Otumfuo Osei Tutu, the Asantehene and other stakeholders to come on board a national dialogue on how to deal with the situation while calling on the Chinese ambassador to call some of their nationals to order considering it is most of its national who are culpable in most of these illegal mining cases.
