We are engaging the government on your concerns – Chief Justice assures aggrieved JUSAG
Chief Justice has called for cool heads to reign over agitations from the staff of the Judicial Service over their salaries and allowances.
In a letter on Monday, November 1, 2021, Chief Justice Kwesi Anin-Yeboah indicated that the judicial service will continue to engage the government on the issue for a solution.
“I wish to use this opportunity to assure all staff of the Judicial Service to remain calm as Management together with the leadership of JUSAG continues engagement with Government to bring finality to the matter,” he said.
The Judicial Service after complaints to the government wanted to embark on industrial action on Wednesday.
This industrial action was in protest of the government’s failure to review the salaries and allowances of its members. This was occasioned by two weeks ultimatum from JUSAG to the government before the action would follow.
A similar instance of the government’s failure to review their salaries in 2019 led to a massive industrial action by JUSAG.
At the time of the strike action two years ago, JUSAG revealed that the Judicial Council did not reveal they were at the negotiation table with the government for the president’s approval. This is what probably have prompted the Chief Justice to act to keep all concerned in the known so as to avoid a repeat of history.
The industrial action disrupted court works nationwide.
