The demand for the West Africa Examinations Council to be collapsed has once again been reiterated by the Ghana National Council for Private Schools (GNACOPS).

The association believes that the examination body is no longer relevant in promoting better education for Ghana as a country.

WAEC’s struggle in handling examination malpractice in the West Africa Senior School Certificate Exams (WASSCE) has resurrected this conversation about the relevance of WAEC in our educational system once again.

Some private schools were fingered by the examination body to be disregarding the rules about the exams.

In a recent press briefing by WAEC on 16th September 2022, they exposed the trend of impersonation in the ongoing exams as 20 people were apprehended by the police in most private schools during the exams.

But Mr Obengfo Kwesi Enoch Nana Gyetuah, National Executive Director did not agree with WAEC’s claim, claiming that it lacks evidence.

He advised the examination body to use technology to curb this trend instead of always blaming private schools.

Mr Gyetuah also indicated that WAEC has not exposed itself to modern ways of handling exams and that has been its bane insisting that they have run out of ideas and are obsolete.

He then craves the indulgence of the Education Ministry to dissolve the examination body

He added that “Every government or every minister who is ahead of time will collapse WAEC; because it is rather rendering our resources and retiring our youth.

“Somebody goes to school for 9 years, 12 years, sits in WAEC exams let’s say WASSCE or BECE and then they will come and tell you that you have failed in Mathematics, you have failed English and because of that your line is truncated you can’t develop anymore,” he said.

They are calling for a new era of a productive assessment program to test students and improve Ghana’s Education system than always relying on WEAC to conduct exams.

This new program according to GNACOPS would support the child’s journey from one level by developing their critical thinking capacity.

The association once again reiterated that WAEC is obsolete and called for a new examination trend that would increase the child’s thinking capacity
