Adam Bonaa doubts whether vigilantism law will be effective dew to the menace in the country.
The law was passed in 2019 to handle political vigilantism groups and clamp down on vigilantism acts in the country, came after the violence in Ayawaso West Wuogon by election happened.
In an interview, Adam Bonaa voiced out some reasons he believes the law will not address the vigilantism problems.
He said, the guys who are supposed to be Chairmen for various disciplines are the appointees of the president. “These guys represent the government at the local level”, he said.
He added that the country still has rivalry between the two main political parties being the NPP and NDC where if it’s the turn of any of them, people belonging to the opposition will be beaten without any arrest. Added that even if one is arrested, he will be freed the next day.
He referred to a pre-dated incident in the 2020 elections where a DCE went with some things to assault a police officer.
He stressed that yes, the Interior Minister is right to say that vigilantism has calmed down, emphasizing that maybe the Minister is basing his facts on inter-party and not inter-party.
