A man from Gwollu in the Sissala West of the Upper West Region on Monday 18th April 2022 nearly met his untimely death after he was butchered while Ghanaians partied away in celebration of Easter.

The incident occurred in the night at about 10 pm. The victim Who is seen crying and begging for mercy in a video making rounds on Social Media was chopped on the knees and at the back.

Information picked up from the grounds indicates that the victim is the New Patriotic Party, NPP Nasara coordinator for Sisaala West. It is understood that the alleged Nasara coordinator was butchered by an opposing camp within the party and the information also alleges that the issue is in regards to an internal executives elections.

The alleged Nasara coordinator went to Gwollu to execute some work for a camp it is believed he belongs to and was detained for going there to change things in their favour.

However, the video shot while executing the act is something we strongly advise the viewers’ discretion. In the video, the opposing camp machete wildling men are heard stating that “we have caught you and stopped you from the bad things you came to do”. When he was chopped at the back with the cutlass for the second time and he screamed, they then asked “did you scream when you came into the village”?

Speaking to Chief Inspector Gideon Ohene Boateng, the Regional Police Public Relations Officer, he indicated that, the police picked up the information at 12:00 AM on Tuesday 19th April 2022 and upon reaching the venue, the victim was helpless on the ground. He was rushed to the Gwollu government hospital and then referred to the Upper West Regional hospital where he is responding to treatment.

Inspector Gideon Ohene Boateng revealed the identity of the victim as one Walika Iddrisu, 45 years old, adding that two (2) suspects have been arrested and detained for investigations. The two suspects are Tora Kangjenu 30 years, and Vallesin Bayuka 39 years, who are both farmers.

The PRO further emphasized that ‘reasons’ for this dastard act are yet to be established by the police service since the victim is unable to give his statement. He also stressed that the Regional Police commander is calling on the public to desist from taking the laws into their custody, but rather report to the nearest police station any wrongdoing.

Efforts to reach the Regional New Patriotic Party executives have proven futile.
