Universities Senior Staff Association calls off strike
SSA-UoG directs members to resume work immediately
As the issue of labour or strike action continue to linger on among some professional bodies as a way of telling the government they want better conditions of service.
The National Executives Council of the Senior Staff Association-Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG), has called off the strike action embarked on by the association. This was stated in a letter signed by the National Chairman of the association, Zakaria Mohammed, directing members to resume work immediately.
According to the letter their decision follows the National Labour Commission’s ruling on August 6, 2021, and various interventions made by the Ministers of Education, Employment and Labour Relations, and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission on behalf of the government.
He explained that this culminated in a road map that serves as a guide to ensure sincerity and fairness in a speedy resolution of all the impasse between them and the government.
Also, he revealed that the executive council of the union will still faithfully engage the government and other relevant stakeholders in its quest for “justice, fairness and equity in the salaries and allowances administration of the association’s members.
Members of the Association are still pressing for the award of market premium and non-basic allowance, as well as the finalization of negotiations of their conditions of service.
