Episode 7
Tchweeew ….
Tchweeew …..Tchweeew
An angry woman in a make-do kitchen cubicle continually releases snakelike hisses as she moves around adding condiments for a night meal.
“0nukpa bûlú! Can’t stay in one place…always in places he should not be. Æta ekomæ!”
Tchweeew Tchweeew
The ladle in her right hand stirred the bottom of the pot with such vigor that it started producing an equally similar tune to the one the woman was making. Judging from the satisfied smile on her determined full lips, she must really be happy with whatever wicked thoughts directed to the object of her anger.
“0fæn3 mïn bā é!”
Red had been standing there for some minutes, trying to get his master’s wife to acknowledge him. The woman is so angry she has yet to even notice his presence.
Some men are indeed so lucky!
At times Red wonders how Master will have such a dutiful and beautiful woman in the house and still chase after Naa’s aunt.
He loved his girl, God knows, but, he really prays that the gene of looking like a granny before your due time is not common in the family.
See master’s wife, even after having three children, misses still looked like a girl without even one child yet master will choose to go after wrinkled women because of heavy chests and prominent behinds.
“Oh Red! You are here?” The plotting Avenger wife finally notices her husband’s worker. “When you cam?” She reverts to the vernacular as her normal way of speech. Never completing a conversation without mixing sentences with either the local Ga dialect or pidgin.
“Oh I jas cam ridnow”
Stretching out his right hand, Red tried handing the now calm woman the sack bag.
“Massa sey make I cam give you”.
“Nk3l3w3i æky3! And now what will I do with that! Can’t you see-“
“Mummy! Homonyeme!” Just like mother, Red thought smiling at the middle child who just came from nowhere to attack the mother mid-speech.
The young mother removed the offending paws from her wrapper and placed the child on her lap. After calming the unhappy little girl, she picked up the woven fan beside the grinding earthenware amidst scattered vegetable and seasoning peel. With renewed energy, she blew the opening under the coal stove to hasten the cooking process.
“I am almost done cooking. Go tell that lousy fellow I don’t need him to feed my children.
“But misses, the things all go spoil!”
“Take am go give the other misses!”
“The other misses!” Red almost laughed as the little girl mimicked her mother perfectly and burst out in a fit of giggles. At least it made the angry mother laugh.
“Misses, keep am eh. We fit go use am tomorrow oh. We jas cam from market now now now before Massa sey make I bring am”. Red tried explaining.
“You are just trying to defend your boss ona?”
Red was disgusted with the man but he couldn’t allow the woman out of anger to waste these fresh vegetables he had taken time to buy on the other woman.
“No oh! Ah, aunty you know sey I respect you too much la”. She has always been nice to him since the time he came to live with his boss. Compared to his in-law-to-be she is an angel.
She smiled, taking an unclean looking hand out of her child’s mouth which was followed by a warning look when the girl tried taking the thumb back.
“True oh Red. Ok put am for the fridge. Bring a plate for your food. Oh, know that your boss of yours will not feed you! Mtcheew”
See, just an angel. “Yessir”
“Bra Red, carry me!”
“Catch me first, Ay0rkor!” Red took off to the room with the little girl in pursuit.
“Red I sent you to give my wife foodstuff not to travel to your village”.
The mate had not even allowed the food to go down properly before rushing back to the park only to meet an obviously unhappy Massa.
Oh but if he were to make that trip then he would not have returned on the same day but what response can a make give his master.
“Massa ibe lunch delay me”.
“Lunch? What do you mean by, you had lunch at home with MY WIFE?!!”
“The normal lunch things eh. But boss you too you dey go for lunch you know what lunch ei mean so…”
Red did not know the sound of that word would get his usually quiet boss to become an angry jealous loud mouth. Leading him on is fun though.
“Red!”
“Massa?”
“Red! What do you mean!”
When the said mate refused to respond he got a whack on the head followed by another until he took off running around the bus with his master trying to catch the laughing mate.
Like father like daughter, Red thought.
