TikTok video lands a nurse in trouble after she threatens to kill patients
A student nurse who threatened to kill patients in a TikTok video has been summoned by the Nurses and Midwifery Council.
A student nurse who threatened to harm patients in a recent TikTok video has been summoned by the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
In the video, a student at Nalerigu Nursing and Midwifery College bemoaned that her family pressured her into the field and thus threat to kill people.
She appeared to be miming over a TikTok voiceover that further warned patients to avoid any facility where she might be posted because she might murder them.
“In case I have graduated, and you see me in the hospital, I mean working in the hospital, I am begging you, ladies and gentlemen, run for your life because I may kill somebody there. I may kill somebody,” she said.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council (N&MC) has criticized the TikTok post which has since gone viral.
On Monday, August 15, 2022, the council issued a press release denying any involvement with the video.
“The statement made by the alleged student nurse is a clear demonstration of ignorance about the Nursing and Midwifery profession, and therefore the public should treat it with the contempt it deserves,” it said
The council further informed the public that investigations had commenced earnestly to identify the said student and apply the necessary sanctions as enshrined in the Code of Conduct for Nurses and Midwives.
It used the opportunity to remind nurses of section 7 (a) (h) of the Code of Professional Conduct for nurses, which charges student nurses to “uphold the reputation of your profession; Your behaviour must at all times bring credit to the profession and desist from abuse of the social media and ensure that it does not interfere with your professional practice or service provision”.
It also cautioned students against the use of the uniform for non-professional activities.
