The judiciary has lost its credibility – Mahama insists
Former president John Mahama has once again justified and stood by his criticism of the judges.
This was in response to the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame calling him out for critiquing the judges stating that they are unwarranted utterances that dent the image of the judiciary and threatens the peace of the country.
But former President Mahama during an interview on TV3 insisted that he still stands by his position saying “I was making a call to action for them to do something”.
He then asked whether Ghanaians have faith in the Judiciary system saying “Do we believe if we go to the court we will get justice?” he asked
He did not mince words in expressing his lost faith in the judicial system for which he is calling for a change.
According to the former president, the reason he has raised concern about the judicial system is the fact that “the judiciary is the last arbiter so we expect it to be for all”.
On the criticism from the Attorney General regarding his thoughts, he said he is not perturbed and would not kowtow to attempts to keep him quiet while adding “If I see something I will say it I will not let him take that away from me when I see it I will say it”.
Former President Mahama also believes that results emanating from the Afrobarometre survey on how the citizenry trust certain institutions with the judiciary inclusive and the public assessment of the judiciary in recent times have vindicated him.
Mr Mahama pointed out that per current standings President Akufo-Addo has appointed more judges in the history of the country than any other president.
To him, this is the time Ghanaians should all come together to make sure the image of the judiciary is raised.
