Textbooks to hit classrooms soon, 3 years after introduction of new curriculum
After two years since the introduction of the new curriculum in basic schools, the textbooks to back the curriculum are said to be finally leaving the printing houses to the various schools according to the Education Minister, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum.
The excited minister indicated that the distribution of the textbooks is ongoing in earnest and by reopening most schools will get textbooks to complement the teaching and learning.
He also expressed satisfaction at how most of the printing houses engaged to print the textbooks are meeting timelines in terms of distribution.
Though this is a sigh of relief for especially teachers, the minister in answering why such a critical component of teaching was delayed during an interview on TV3 reiterated there was the need to critically go through what is being printed before distribution to the schools while admitting that the process could have been fast-tracked.
The new standard based-curriculum which was introduced almost three years ago was aimed at heralding new academic dawn, giving a new phase to basic education across the country but the government and some stakeholders in the education sector faced backlash as the textbook to complement the new curriculum was yet to get to the classroom but as the Minister announced the citizenry wait with bated breath and look forward to its usage when basic schools resume.
