Special Prosecutor goes after Customs following Labianca scandal
A probe has been initiated by the Office of the Special Prosecutor into some underhand dealings regarding the auction sales of vehicles and other goods by the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority from 1st July 2016 to15th August 2022.
To aid this investigation, the Office of the Special Prosecutor has asked the Commissioner of the Customs Division to provide some important documents to that effect before 30th September 2022.
The office is demanding meticulous documentation of the following description of all auctioned items, the price, the date they were sold and also the address and contact details of the successful bidders.
Also, all auction sales are to be halted till the investigation is completed according to the directive issued by the OSP to the Commissioner of Customs.
Due to the alleged corruption acts involving Labianca Group of Companies at the Customs Division, a thorough probe has been commenced by the OSP to check the issues of customers’ advance rulings and markdowns of benchmarks from July 2017 to December 2021.
The OSP in its statement also demanded some documents about customs advance rulings, application of benchmark values and many others on the usage of the customs law in each instance from the Commissioner of Customs.
