Soldier in viral A&C mall shooting video being tried
The soldier, Flt. Sergeant Nicholas Owusu Frimpong was charged and is facing military trial after he was caught in a video, shooting a gun sporadically on New Year’s Eve at the A&C Mall in East Legon, Accra.
This comes after the Ghana Armed Forces, GAF concluded their investigation into the case. Following an inquiry into a viral video showing a guy firing several shots from a pistol at the A&C Mall in Accra, Flt. Sergeant Nicholas Owusu Frimpong was detained.
He was then arrested by the Military Police while the investigation was carried out.
In a radio interview as cited by graphic online, the interim Public Relations Director of the GAF, Commander Andy L. A. Anyane, stated that the inquiry into the incident is concluded.
He stated that a report had been submitted and that Flt. Sergeant Nicholas Owusu Frimpong would be tried by his Commander, who is based at the Airforce Base in Takoradi in the Western Region, according to military investigative procedures.
According to him, the charges have been forwarded to his commander, and the trial will be handled by a board.
The Military Police, he said, were in charge of the investigation. Commander Anyane did not disclose the charges levelled against Flt. Sergeant Nicholas Owusu Frimpong, but said the Military High Command “takes a serious view of the action and so the proper charges will be preferred.”
