Air Vice-Marshal Frank Hanson, the Chief of Air Staff, is scheduled to appear in court later today, October 13, 2021, on contempt charges.
The case of contempt against the senior military commander was deferred till today in an Accra High Court. The judge decided to postpone the case until after the hearing.
Emmanuel Bright Atokoh, the lawyer for the petitioner, Adolf Tetteh Adjei, told the media after the first contempt hearing that the senior military commander had disobeyed a prior court injunction on a tract of land.
Adolf Tetteh, the alleged landowner, has also accused the senior military commander of destroying his property and threatening his workers with soldiers.
The defendant lawyer in explaining their decision to return to the court said “we are in court on a motion for committal for contempt to commit the Chief of Air Staff to prison for flouting court orders. Unfortunately, the case has been adjourned because the lawyer for the contemnor, thus, Air Vice Marshal Hanson has written a letter to the court asking for an adjournment”.
He added that “Contrary to the orders of the court, the senior officer entered the land with soldiers and land guards to brutalize and shoot residents. That’s why we are back in court.”
