School feeding program to be digitized to remove ‘ghost’ schools and children
As part of measures to digitize the economy, plans as underway by the government to add a digital touch to the Ghana School Feeding Program.
The aim of the digitization of the Ghana School Feeding Program (GSFP)is to ensure efficiency, speedy transfer of data and transparency and fairness in the program.
This was part of the revelation Dr Bawumia made as he addressed the nation on the essence of going digital at the Ashesi University in the Eastern Region.
He was optimistic that this move will address the phenomenon of “ghost schools” and “ghost children”.
To also boost this digital move, management of the Ghana School Feeding Program led by Dr Mrs Getrude Quashigah have procured 300 new tablets with the help of the World Food Program (WFP) to pilot the digital system in some selected district within Ghana’s sixteen regions.
Stakeholders that will be involved in this process in the 16 regions have been practically trained by the GSFP management and their partner WFP. The key stakeholders that have been trained on the use of the tablets for monitoring and evaluation include headteachers, circuit supervisors, and school feeding staff at the national and regional levels.
The piloting of the monitoring system started on November 1, in the selected districts and gradually the whole school feeding program will soon be digitized.
