Review Single Spine to give workers better remuneration – PSWU
The Public Sector Workers Union has called on the government to revise the salary structure for public sector workers.
It said the action is necessary to peg the remuneration of public sector workers at the required level.
The Single Spine Salary Structure, which is currently being used, was started in 2010 to check public sector workers’ salaries and guarantee them better salaries.
However, Mr Bernard Adjei, General Secretary of PSWU has said that the pay structure has now become obsolete to be implemented in paying salaries of public sector workers.
“Our expectation is that the review of the Single Spine will bring levels to the space. Looking at the current economic circumstances and the living wage, there should be realistic wages and compensation for people for what they do. The Single Spine is missing the point. The truth is that, as it is now, it has outlived its relevance, and it doesn’t solve the issue of low pay.”
