Review Covid-19 testing arrangement – Davis Opoku Ansah to Health Ministry
The Health Ministry has been asked by the legislator for Mpraeso in the Eastern Region Davis Opoku Ansah to review the Covid-19 testing structure across the country.
He bemoaned the current testing regime’s impact on the country’s trade and tourism.
Not discounting the importance of the testing he reiterated that it is time it is looked into once again.
“It’s time for the Ministry of Health to review the Covid testing regime in our country.”
“While it is essential to have our eyes on the virus, we must appreciate that the testing regime hurts trade and tourism.”
He added that many Ghanaians have been vaccinated against the disease as such, the policy should be reviewed.
Mr Ansah suggested that upon arrival at the airport with proof of vaccination, the passenger shouldn’t be subjected to mandatory testing at the airport.
“Today, many Ghanaians have had access to the vaccine, and many more persons entering our country have also been immunised. We can say that, as of now, we can fight the virus.”
“Therefore, anyone who shows proof of complete vaccination should be spared the testing at the Airport.”
Also, he appealed to the government to put in place measures at the country’s land borders to enable its safe opening.
“Those who also have a less than 48-hour PCR test and can use the African Union and Africa CDC #TrustedTravel platform, a Covid Pass tool that simplifies verification of public health documentation for travellers during exit and entry across borders, should also be allowed access to Ghana without going through the testing in our ports.”
“Again, Government must put measures in place to allow for passage along with the land ports in Ghana. Our traders, who go to Togo and Nigeria to also engage in trading, must be allowed access. We can also put in place the testing regime along these borders.”
