Principal of Colleges of Education to meet CETAG today
A crunch meeting has been scheduled today 13th September 2022 between the Principals of Colleges of Education, PRINCE and the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana, CETAG.
This is to address the leave concerns raised by CETAG after the association decided that its members will go on leave en masse.
CETAG opines that the new academic calendar brought up which does not give them any space to rest has forced them to take such a drastic decision.
Meanwhile, this meeting is to see if CETAG could compromise on their initial decision to go on leave.
On 1st September 2022, CETAG, a composition of teachers of all 46 Colleges of Education decided to embark on leave and return on 10th October.
Members also want the government to give them better conditions of service associated with its compensatory packages and they gave the government an ultimatum of up to 31st August 2022 else it should not blame CETAG for any drastic decisions it[CETAG] will take.
The group said in a statement “The Association has observed with uneasiness government’s relaxed attitude in ensuring that tutors in the colleges of education are given full and better conditions of service to encourage them to give off their best in the training of pre-tertiary teachers who, in turn, train the future leaders of the country”.
CETAG further complained that the government keeps dragging its feet concerning the conditions of service since August 2021.
According to CETAG, the government’s attitude flouts Article 24 (1) of the 1992 constitution of Ghana.
