President Akufo-Addo in Belgrade to grace NAM at 60
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo left Ghana on Sunday leading the Ghanaian team to attend the Non-Aligned Movement’s 60th Anniversary Ceremony in Belgrade, Serbia.
The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) is a forum of 120 developing countries that are not formally aligned with any major power bloc. It is the second-largest grouping of states after the United Nations.
The President will travel to Serbia to honour the Non-Aligned Movement’s 60th anniversary.
Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President, was one of the five historic founders of the Movement, along with Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru of India, President Ahmed Sukarno of Indonesia, President Gamal Abdel Nasser of Egypt, and President Josip Broz Tito of Yugoslavia, who launched the Movement in Belgrade.
On the 60th anniversary of the first NAM Conference, the Government of Serbia is hosting a memorial event in Belgrade on October 11 and 12, 2021.
President Akufo-Addo will deliver a remark at the summit to reaffirm Ghana’s commitment to the SDGs.
On Tuesday, October 12, 2021, the President will return to Ghana. In his absence, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will take over.
