Police ready for #FixTheCountry demonstration

The Accra Regional Police Command has stated that it is ready to provide security for today’s #FixTheCountry demonstration.
According to a statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs Unit, Greater Accra Regional Police Command, and copied to the media, personnel from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) would ensure the free flow of traffic, taking into account the traffic situation.
The police are determined about working with the demonstrators to ensure a peaceful march, according to the statement.
However, the statement urged organizers and demonstrators to follow all Covid-19 protocols and work with the Police to ensure a smooth event.
It also appealed for public support in order to maintain peace and security.
The Economic Fighters League, a pressure group, is protesting to voice their displeasure with various proposals in the 2022 budget.
These policies were deemed “crazy” by league members. The organization said the 2022 budget smack of “purposeful deception” and “the absence of truth and genuine responsibility” in a statement announcing their decision.
As a result, they are pleading with the 275 MPs to reject the 2022 Budget outright.
“The protest is to register our displeasure at the ridiculous proposals of the 2022 Budget and demand Parliament not to approve the Budget in its current form,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has advised members of the pressure group to reconsider their planned public protest against the 2022 ‘Agyenkwa’ budget, which was presented to Parliament on Wednesday, November 17.
Hardi Yakubu, one of the group’s organizers, as cited by Ghana news agency stated that despite Police requests, they insisted on holding a demonstration today Friday, November 26, 2021
The demonstrators will gather opposite the Hockey Pitch at Tema Station, proceed to Accra Technical University, then to the Trade Union Congress Traffic Light, then to Cedi House, then to the National Theatre Traffic Light, then to the AU Roundabout, and lastly to the Parliament House.
