Police officially arrest ‘kidnapped but found pregnant woman’ Josephine Panyin Mensah
Josephine Panyin Mensah the lady at the centre of the kidnapping saga in the Western Region has officially been arrested and detained by Police in the region for deceiving security officers and the entire country with a false pregnancy and kidnap story.
As it stands now she is being detained at the Takoradi Police cells after being officially apprehended on Friday night September 24, 2021, after her confession that the story was a hoax.
Her mother, who was initially in Police custody on Thursday, was also released on Friday night.
Residents of the area where she stays in Takoradi who initially sympathized with Josephine were shocked and disappointed at the sudden turn of events. Some of them now want the Police to conduct a DNA test on Jospehine’s first child.
“The current turn of events is mind-boggling. Now we don’t know which story to believe. We all knew that she was pregnant. When we heard that her story was fake, the whole society was shaken to the core. People around the area claimed that she was pregnant, so now it is difficult to comprehend the Police’s contrary report,” a resident said.
For another resident Josephine’s story is embarrassing.
“I’m convinced that she was not pregnant. It’s putting pressure on women in Takoradi, the Western Region and the whole of Ghana. If she actually has a son, the Police should conduct a DNA test to confirm if indeed the son belongs to her husband or not.”
“We’ve been shaken by this story. When we heard that she had been kidnapped, we were worried. But we can’t fathom the new development. I don’t trust the story being bandied around. I will only believe this story when I hear from her directly,” another resident said.
Josephine Panyin Mensah, since September 15, has been in the news after the media reported that she was nine months pregnant and had been kidnapped during a dawn walk.
Her subsequent reappearance and the banter between the family and community on one side and first the Western Regional Minister Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah and later the Police has created so much doubt in the minds of persons who followed her story. Until the evening of yesterday, many sympathized and empathized with her but following a post on the Police Facebook page that she confessed that she was neither pregnant nor kidnapped, many are those who are calling for he to be punished and also asking for all who ridiculed the Regional Minister to apologize.
