Police in Ashanti Region launch investigation into Kennedy Agyapong’s threat on journalist

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has assured Ghanaians and journalists of its commitment to an alleged threat issued to Erastus Asare Donkor, a journalist with the Multimedia Group by the Assin Central Lawmaker, Kennedy Agyapong.

In a press statement released and signed by DCOP David Agyemang Adjem, the deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander stated that investigations have been launched into the matter; giving assurances of the journalist safety.
The command however reiterated his unit’s preparedness to protect each and every person in the Region.

Kennedy Agyapong on July 9, 2021, threatened to beat Erastus Asare Donkor of Luv FM who appeared before a committee that is investigating the incident that led to the shooting and killing of two people at Ejura and the injury of several others.

The Assin Central Law Maker who made the comment on his Net 2 TV Channel expressed dissatisfaction over how the Multimedia journalist gave his witness before the committee. He went as far as saying that the journalist deserved to be lashed with an uncountable number of canes.

This comment which didn’t go down well with most Ghanaians has received widespread attention and condemnation.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command however in a Press Statement revealed that the command has received a formal complaint and petition from the Multimedia Group against Kennedy Agyapong for his threats allegedly made against Erastus Asare Donkor, and is giving it the needed attention.

It could be recalled that this is not the first time such threats have been made against a journalist by the maverick parliamentarian. Ahmed Hussein-Suale, an investigative journalist with Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ Tiger Eye P.I investigation team was shot dead on 16th January 2019 by assailants days after his pictures were published by Kennedy Agyapong. This was after Ahmed was said to have played an integral role in the investigative work titled Number 12 led shook the foundation of the Ghana Football Association; its president at the time Kwesi Nyantakyi resigned has since been banned by FIFA.
