Police arrests Ellembelle DCE again, one missing excavator recovered
Police in the Western Region (Sekondi) have arrested the Ellembelle District Chief Executive (DCE) over the recent disappearance of two excavators used for illegal mining in the district.
According to reports, Kwasi Bonzoh was arrested on Wednesday when the police identified one excavator similar to the two excavators reported missing.
The arrest happened when the DCE followed the police into a village call Ayisakrom to identify the missing excavator but ended up in a confrontation with the police and was eventually bundled into a police vehicle and transported to the headquarters in Sekondi.
Meanwhile, police have confirmed the arrest.
Police in a post on social media explained that a team of operations and intelligence officers discovered the missing excavator several kilometres into a forest within the Ellembelle District.
Official statement from the police explained that “while the team of police officers were escorting the excavator to Takoradi, at the Axim Junction, the DCE of Ellembelle, Mr Kwasi Bonzo organised and led some thugs to attack the police and obstruct the operation. The DCE and three others were therefore arrested accordingly.”
It added that the police successfully got hold of one of the excavators. “The Police through days of intelligence operations yesterday, September 6, retrieved one of the excavators that were reported missing from Ellembelle,” part of the statement read.
