Oti Region discovers Iron ore
Deposits of iron ore have been discovered in the Oti Region, the Minister in Charge Joshua Gmayenaam Makubu revealed to the media on Sunday, 9th October 2022.
The deposits have been discovered in the Guan, Biakoye, Jasikan, Karachi East and Kadjebi districts of the region.
According to the Minister, the region is currently in the Mineral Resource Estimation Phase to give them an idea of what actual tonnage is available on the land.
He is optimistic that this resource will help in boosting Ghana’s economy.
“I want to advise people in Accra to start looking for land in the Oti Region because what is going to take Ghana from our current state to a very industrialized nation has been found in the Oti Region and that is the iron ore”.
The Ghana Integrated Iron Ore Development is liaising with the Geological Service Department for further analysis of the mineral resource before the commencement of its mining.
Interestingly, investors have started moves aimed at developing the mineral. He called on investors who have intentions of starting steel companies to make the Oti Region their destination.
Large quantities of Iron ore deposit 55.22 weight per cent and of a higher grade.
It was discovered by the Ghana Geological Survey Authority in the Oti Region.
The government has assured of its commitment to retain the value of the discovery in the region.
