One dead, two injured in Awutu Awubia Festival in the Central Region
Awutu Awubia festival purifying ritual leads to the death of one person while others are left injured
The Awutu Awubia Festival which started last Thursday, August 26, 2021, in Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region has brought about bloodshed as one person has been shot dead.
An eight-year-old boy has been confirmed dead during the Festival ritual. According to reports, the boy was shot dead on Monday morning by a group of people carrying out the rituals to purify the community before the Awutu Awubia Festival.
The eight-year-old boy identified as Atta Kow was said to be pushing his brother who was in a wheelchair when he was hit by the bullet.
According to an eyewitness, the shooting is supposed to be done with the gun pointing to the sky, so how the boy got hit by a bullet from a gun that was supposed to be pointed skywards is a mystery.
Two other people are said to be in critical condition fighting for their lives in the Winneba Trauma Hospital. The Awutu Bereku District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Joshua Semanyo said the suspect has been arrested and further investigation is ongoing.
Currently, the police have taken over the durbar grounds as angry residents remain anxious about the entire turn of events.
