‘NPP Lawyer’ Gary Nimako gets top government job
Gary Nimako Marfo, a managing partner at Marfo & Associates, has been named board chairman of the Ghana Gaming Commission.
The Gaming Commission was founded by the Gaming Act of 2006 (Act 721) with the primary goal of regulating, controlling, monitoring and supervising the operation of games of chance in the country.
Also, the Commission is in charge of awarding licenses to all gaming operators as well as permits to organizations and people who want to organize promotions that include elements of chance games.
The Ghana Gambling Commission scaled up efforts in September 2021 to enforce “know your customer” (KYC) verification in the Ghanaian gaming business.
KYC verification entails casino operators confirming the identity of all customers that visit their establishments or online. The Commission stated at the time that the effort was required due to the recent increase in gaming activities in Ghana.
Additionally, the Gaming Commission and the Financial Intelligence Centre also laid out a series of actions at a recent stakeholder meeting to guarantee that operators in the fast-growing gaming industry comply with the obligatory KYC verification.
The Gaming Commission’s board of directors, led by Nimako Marfo, is supposed to support the Commission’s management in establishing and maintaining a viable, fair, and reputable gaming industry for all Ghanaians who are interested in or affected by gaming.
In order to aid national development, the board will be obliged to construct a better and more sustainable industry.
It will do so by ensuring that the Commission’s core goals – regulating, controlling, monitoring, and supervising the operation of games of chance in Ghana – are met.
