Norsaac decries low female representation in the President’s MMDCEs nominations
Some Civil Society Organizations are disappointed over gender representation that has characterized the current nomination of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives.
Though as it stands now there are about 38 females who have been nominated but the CSO argues that the number of females nominated in the region has decreased from 4 in 2017 to 1 in 2021 .
Their demands is to get the gender disparity issue addressed and to kick start the process of engaging government on the Affirmative Action bill on when it will be passed.
Head of Programs ,Policy and Campaign at Norsaac Hajia Hafsat Sei Sumani also revealed how the group intends to engage other women’s rights groups to state their displeasure at the current turn of events and push for the bill to be passed .
Hajia Sumani also condemned the violence that happened in Chereponi due to the nomination of a woman as District Chief Executive .
The recent nomination of MMDCEs has brought up mixed reactions with some even resulting in violence but the civil society organization hopes it catches the eyes of the authorities to get their issues addressed.
