No ban on the use of phones in Parliament – Alban Bagbin
Phones can still be used in the Gallery of the Legislature, Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Alban Suman Kingsford Bagbin has clarified.
This response is on the back of initial claims made by Daily Guide stating that phones were not to be used in parliament again following the instruction of the Speaker.
Though there had been attempts in 2020 to prevent legislators from using their phones as the Majority leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu complained that it created a distraction in parliament.
The office of the Speaker has subsequently in a statement denied such claims deeming them false.
It said, “Mr Speaker has issued no such directive banning the use of phones in Parliament,” adding that “No member of Parliament has been stopped from using their phones in the Chamber”.
Legislators are still freely using their phones in the chamber while there has been no such directive to the press corps in parliament on such a move.
