National Chief Imam commended for donating towards Cathedral project
The Chieftancy and Religious Affairs Ministry has commended the gesture of the National Chief Imam Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu towards building the national cathedral.
It indicated that this will go a long way to build a strong bond of religious coexistence since Ghana is a country with many different religions as well.
Justifying why the gesture of the Muslim leader should be applauded, the Ministry said that the exemplary act of the Chief Imam would deepen the unique goodwill between Muslims and Christians in the country.
“The inter-faith harmony that exists among the various religious groups in the country is an enviable one that calls for all efforts to protect it for posterity. Sheikh Sharubutu’s gesture remains an open testament that will not be forgotten in the history of religious tolerance in the country.”
Also, it urged individuals and organizations to learn from the Chief Imam’s exemplary act to donate towards the building of the National Cathedral.
Ghanaians subjected the idea to a barrage of criticisms after the Finance Minister, during the presentation of the Mid-year Budget Review, called on the citizenry to donate GH¢100 a month towards the over $100 million Cathedral project. However, prominent persons are justifying why it is necessary the act of the National Chief Imam has added more weight to the side of those in favour of Ghanaians donating to support the exercise.
The populace also has divergent views about the issue, with many arguing that the government must focus on important projects than the Cathedral.
