A group calling itself the Coalition of Nation Builders Corps Trainees have threatened to picket at Jubilee House if government fails to pay members their accrued allowances.

A group calling itself the Coalition of Nation Builders Corps Trainees have issued an ultimatum to the government to pay up the accrued allowance owed members for some months, threatening to demonstrate at the Jubilee House.

The threat comes just days after the NABCo program which started in 2018 came to an end on August 31, 2022 after an initial extension in 2021.

According to the beneficiaries, though the program was extended their allowances were not being paid.

Nana Barimah, the patron of the group threatened that should the government not settle their debt within the stipulated time they are headed for court.

“Inasmuch as the government didn’t specify any timelines for which trainees should be expecting payment, the government is unprepared to pay NABCO trainees. We anticipate foul play and neglect of payment, so we have given the government a one-month window. If September ends, and we are not paid, we don’t have any other option than to drag government to court.”

As it stands now a demonstration from the beneficiaries on September 6 2022 has been scheduled and it will take place around thie Jubilee House.

“Following the recent demonstration at the Independence Square on the 18th of August 2022, for which a petition detailing the grievances of NABCO trainees was received by the Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr Emmanuel Adumua-Bossman, on behalf of the Vice President, H.E. Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, a time window which fell on the 26th August 2022 was given to the government with the hope of receiving a positive response to the petition,” the statement added.

It then added that “The expiration of the ultimatum has been exceeded by three (3) days. As we already know, NABCO trainees are only two days away from their exit date, 1st September 2022, which was succinctly announced by the Finance Minister in his budgetary review reading”.

The trainees threatened that if after the protest they don’t get a favourable response from the government they are not leaving the premises citing that the seeming silence from the government shows that it does not care.

All NABCo trainees have been asked to meet at the Obra spot where the protest is scheduled to commence.
