NABCo trainees paid one month out of ten months arrears
The Nana Akufo-Addo government has released funds for the payment of one month out of the ten months’ arrears owed beneficiaries of the Nation Builders Corps trainees (NABCO).
President of the NABCo Trainees’ Association of Ghana (NABTAG), Dennis Opoku Katakyie, has confirmed that payment hit their various accounts yesterday.
A statement issued by the body yesterday stated “NABCO trainees are hereby informed that stipends payment for November 2021, as one month’s settlement of the ten months arrears, has been processed. In actuality, nine months, counting from December 2021 through to August 2022, are still outstanding.”
The association added that it will ensure all trainees are fully paid their stipends for the remaining nine (9) months.
“If after a considerable period of time, arrears for the remaining months are not fully paid, the leadership will recruit another draconian measure to forcibly ensure that we are paid. We have done it before, so we can do it again.”
Some members of NABCo described the action as a means to buy time to starve them more because the programme which was introduced in May 2018 to temporarily address graduates’ unemployment and officially ended on 1st September 2022, has made their conditions worse as they still rely on family members to survive.
“Affix trainees’ outstanding arrears into its subsequent allocations to enable the Secretariat to effect payment for the remaining months,” part of the statement directed to the Ministry of Finance read.
