Mahama’s comments are a personal attack on the Chief Justice – MP
The Member Of Parliament, for Afigya Kwabre North in the Ashanti Region, Collins Adomako, has said that former president John Mahama’s comments on the judiciary are a personality attack on the Chief Justice, Kwasi Anin-Yeboah.
Speaking on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV, the lawmaker stated that, ex-president Mahama’s “sinking image of the judiciary” comment was needless and an unprovoked attack on the current Chief Justice.
He said, “that was a straightforward personal attack on the Chief Justice. I don’t know what he has against the current Chief Justice but there is no ambiguity to this particular statement”.
Challenged by the host Annie Ampofo on his understanding of a personal attack, he explained saying “my understanding is that the current Chief Justice has not performed well, he has brought the image of the judiciary into disrepute and that the only way the image can be redeemed is that we have a new person”.
Collins Adomako added that “what Mr Mahama is saying is that his performance as a leader of the judiciary, he has failed, that is what it means”.
President Mahama speaking at NDC’s Lawyers’ Conference held on 28th August, said “So badly has the image of our Judiciary deteriorated. That many of our citizenry openly make mockery of our justice system and of our justices. The phrase ‘Go to Court’ is these days met with derisive laughter, instead of hope that one will truly get justice. If people are not poking fun about politics and inducements being used to sway the hand of justice in the lower courts, then it is poking fun and making statements about the 7-0 of the ‘Unanimous FC’“.
