Francis-Xavier Sosu - Human Rights lawyer and MP

After the adjournment of the case last week, legislator for the Madina Constituency Francis-Xavier Sosu is scheduled to appear before the Kaneshie District Court today 16th November 2021 to answer the charges being levelled against him for causing damage to public property and obstructing traffic on the highway.

Though he was supposed to be in court last week he was out of the country on Parliamentary duties leading to the case being adjourned to November 16, 2021.

The lawmaker is supposed to answer questions based on happenings in his constituency on October 25th 2021 as he led his constituents in a protest over bad roads.

This was to draw the government’s attention to the deplorable state of the roads in order to get them fixed.

However, after a first video of the lawmaker allegedly telling some constituents to block roads another trending video on social media seems to have vindicated the embattled MP, as it shows him calming tempers and telling angry demonstrators not to block roads.

The video also allegedly captures a policeman standing behind him while he advises the angry youth against the burning of tyres and blocking the road during the demonstration last month.

The police charged the lawmaker after two failed attempts to apprehend him for leading his constituents to demonstrate over bad roads on October 25, 2021.

Mr Sosu and the Minority caucus have insisted that the charges are trumped up and an after-thought.

The video hit the internet at a time when police were bent on arraigning the MP before the court to face the charges of unlawfully blocking a public road and the destruction of public property.
