Madina MP escaped another attempted arrest by Police while in church
The aftermath of events at the recent protest held by the people of Madina constituency backed by their legislator Francis-Xavier Sosu continue to unfold as a second attempt by the Police to apprehend him at the church was foiled again.
According to the Head pastor of the House of Prayer Ministries International, two officers in mufti who stormed the church to allegedly arrest the Madina MP Francis-Xavier Sosu could not provide their arrest warrant.
He established the fact that they could only provide proof of their identity that they were officers working with the Ghana Police Service.
The Rev Minister narrated to the press saying when the ministration was going on he was preaching, somebody walked in with a nose mask and later the ushers informed me that there are some security persons around and they will like to have a word with me. So, quickly, I went outside to meet with them, they came with pickup and said they are here to arrest honourable because they invited him four days ago but he couldn’t report himself so they are here to take him away.
“I tried finding out from them about their arrest warrant, they couldn’t provide but they showed me their ID card that they are coming from the CID headquarters,” he said
This is the second time in two weeks attempts to arrest the legislator has been foiled with the current one being an attempt to arrest him at his church on Sunday, October 31, 2021, due to his alleged participation in the protest.
Mr Sosu complained bitterly against the Greater Accra Regional Operation Commander, Isaac Kojo Asante on Wednesday, October 27 during Parliamentary proceedings for attempting to arrest him while he discharging his parliamentary duties.
The Speaker in his response said, “The committee will investigate the complaint and will submit a report to the house for the whole consideration of the matter.”
He added “I receive complaints. I receive information about Police Service personnel pursuing Members of Parliament on both sides of the house, and I have on a number of occasions intervened to talk to the authorities and to draw their attention to the law.”
“Members of Parliament have some special rights because of the peculiar nature of the position, functions, and duties of the Member of Parliament.”
Mr Sosu wants the Police chief to be hauled before the Privileges Committee for contempt of parliament.
The Police officers under the command of the said ACP Isaac Kojo Asante, the regional operations commander and Eric Wilful the Divisional Commander of Adenta Abokobi led their boys to manhandle me and virtually held me, humiliated me right in the presence of my constituents with whom we were demanding for better roads.”
Sunday’s attempted arrest comes after he first escaped on Monday, October 25, 2021, when an attempt was made to arrest him after he was done addressing protestors at Ayi-Mensah.
Members of Parliament within the same caucus of Hon Francis-Xavier Sosu in solidarity with their colleague have called out the Police for disregarding the Parliament’s Privileges Committee and still wanting to arrest their colleague.
