Mr John Boadu, the General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party has called for calm among members of the ruling party and the general public to exercise patience as the list of MMDCEs will be released soon after the president returns from Germany.

Mr John Boadu disclosed this during an interview with Omanhene Kwabena Asante on Adom TV’s Badwam show when he assured the general public to be placated as the list will soon be made known to the public sphere.

His comment came after many have expressed worry and discontent about the delay in the release of the MMDCEs by the President.

“The list of MMDCEs will be released within a week after President Akufo-Addo’s return from his Germany trip. I can tell you that it will not take more than a week for the list to be released after his return on August 28, 2021” he said.

He confirmed the twisted defined mode of selecting the MMDCEs and noted also that for him, MMDCEs should have been elected by the electorate as the President had wanted but for the complications of the opposition party.

The structure of government at the district level comprises a district (metropolitan or municipal) assembly, which is the legislative arm of the local government unit, and a district (metropolitan or municipal) chief executive, who is “the chief representative of the central government in the district” and is “responsible for the day-to-day performance of the executive and administrative functions of the district.”  The Government of Ghana has initiated steps to amend the country’s constitution to democratize the mode of selection of the chief executives of local government authorities as well as allow political parties to sponsor candidates in local government elections.
