Lack of due diligence the cause of Weija dam spillage floods – Titus Glover blames assembly
Mr Titus Nii Kwartei Glover, Member of Parliament for Tema East has narrowed the issues regarding the spillage of the Weija dam to indiscipline of the people and the inaction of the local assembly.
Explaining this on TV3 on 5th October 2022, the MP said “the lack of due diligence where people do not look at the scheme of things in the area where the lands are being sold, they just go and buy the land” is what is causing the floods.
He also blamed the situation on the inaction of the assembly members, claiming that when he was an assembly member from 1998 to 2002 under Nii Armah Ashitey in the Tema enclave, Mr Ashitey chalked many successes in his role as Metropolitan Chief Executive due to his proactiveness.
He added, “the assemblies must be up and doing. They just write stop work on these buildings and do not follow up they need to go to the grounds with the unit committee members to draw the attention of the assembly to these situations”.
Mr Glover backing Mr Stanley Martey of the Ghana Water Company Limited’s argument for the spillage said, “if it does not spill there will be a disaster, there is also the urgent need for sensitization and advocacy that you do not just get up and buy land and it is quite unfortunate that due lack of due diligence they are paying the price for it”.
