Kumasi needs another university to help KNUST get back on track – Analyst
A Fraud and Security analyst, Mr Richard Kumadoe has suggested that there is a need for a new university in the Ashanti Region to offer humanities.
He opined that would afford the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) the opportunity to focus on science-related courses, the main reason for its establishment.
Mr Kumadoe bemoaned that at the moment, the KNUST has veered off its main focus which is to provide science and technology education at the tertiary level and is now focusing on business-related courses and humanities.
According to him, this must change immediately to preserve the unique identity of KNUST.
While speaking on the New Day show on TV3 Monday, May 9, he said, “We need a new University in Kumasi,” he said adding that “KNUST that is supposed to offer science is now offering business and other courses.”
The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) originally established as Kumasi College of Technology by a Government Ordinance in 1951 was transformed into a full-fledged university in 1952 to offer science and technology education.
