Kumasi Central Women’s Prison Appeals For Support
Director in Charge of the Kumasi Central Women’s Prison Madam Christian Asiedu has revealed that her outfit is in dire need of many amenities to help in the smooth running of the place.
The prison as a place that is supposed to shape and reform individuals who have breached the law and needs several other items to enable its effective operation. The lack of such basic amenities needed to help in keeping the inmates and assisting in their reform more often than not make the purpose of the facilities unmet.
Madam Christiana Asiedu enumerated challenges including healthcare. She said most of the inmates are not enrolled on the National Health Insurance Scheme thus making affording healthcare services difficult.
She further indicated that, their plight has been worsened the fact that visitors were not allowed due to Covid-19. That was one source of support they had but now have to do without that and the lack of donations is adversely affecting them.
As a way of supporting the inmates, Brothers Keepers Club renovated the kitchen of the facility. The kind gesture from the group got the director excited and thanked their benefactors for their kindness.
Also District Chief Executive for Amansie South. Mr Opoku Gyamfi who is also a member of the Brother Keepers club after the donation encouraged Ghanaian to also donate more to help the prisons service.
