Ken Ofori-Atta should resign – Prof Bokpin
Professor Godfred Bokpin of the University of Ghana Business School has supported calls for Ken Ofori-Atta to step aside from his role as Finance Minister.
He said there is a need for novel ideas on how to tackle the deteriorating economic situation in the country and normalize the situation.
Expressing his thoughts during an interview with TV3, Prof Bokpin said “I think that we need fresh minds, we need fresh ideas, we need a different face from the Ministry.
“I do recognize the current Minister of Finance, perhaps has done his best for the country and I think that we should be able to recognize that we are at the point where somebody also needs to continue.”
As it stands now he is not the only person and expert who wants the Finance Minister out.
Another is former President Mahama who said that the Finance Miniter has no clue as to how to bring the economy back on track after watching it collapse reiterating that he needs to be shown the exit. Although he welcomed the decision for the country to go to the International Monetary Fund, he insisted on his stance of wanting the Finance Minister out saying “President Akufo-Addo must take a bold decision to replace his finance minister immediately with a more assured and competent person who is willing and able to work tirelessly to turn our almost hopeless situation around,” Mr Mahama said.
But the under-fire Minister Ken Ofori-Atta insists that he is the best person for the job and would not resign. ”It is almost like telling a father to resign from his children because he has changed his mind”.
