Juaben MCE nominee arrested
The Ghana Police Service has commenced investigations into the case involving the Municipal Chief Executive nominee for Juaben Alex Sarfo Kantanka over allegations of bribery for which he was nabbed yesterday.
As it stands now he has been released on bail according to a Police statement which said the bail was granted after his investigation caution statement was taken.
Chaotic scenes erupted in Juaben after Assembly Members in the municipality rejected the President’s nominee on Monday, November 1, 2021, for the second time since his nomination for a second term by President Akufo-Addo.
Residents of the area are also up in arms and had threatened to assault Assembly Members if they fail to give them a Municipal Chief Executive and they lamented that within the Ashanti Region they are currently one of the municipalities left without an MCE.
But the swift intervention of the Police saved the situation as no casualty was recorded at the scene.
The whole scene turned chaotic after the rejected nominee was captured in a video demanding a refund of monies he allegedly paid to the assembly members as motivation to vote for him which they failed to do thus triggering his actions and subsequent arrest.
