Joshua Akamba carried a gun to the Arise Ghana demo on Wednesday – Police reveal
On day two of the ‘krom ay3 hye’ demonstration which commenced on June, 28,2022, a leading member of the Arise Ghana group, Joshua Akamba has been reported to have carried his registered gun to the demonstration ground.
Reasons are not known as to why he was in possession of a gun but it could be as a result of some scary scenes that transpired on day one[June 28, 2022] of the demonstration where Police officers were captured in footage using tear gas and water cannons to disperse the protesting crowd that pelted stones.
Upon spotting Joshua Akamba with his gun on June 29, 2022, the Ghana Police stated that Mr Akamba was cautioned against wielding the weapon for the demonstration.
Parts of a Police statement on Facebook stated that “The Police have spotted a demonstrator, Joshua Akamba with a weapon among the crowd of demonstrators gathered around the El-Wak Stadium, today, 29th June 2022.
“He was duly advised by the Police to put the weapon away after his attention was drawn to the illegality associated with such an act. He was also urged to notify other demonstrators to desist from carrying offensive weapons during the demonstration”.
Checks have shown that Joshua Akamba gave up his gun after the altercation with the police before joining the demonstrators.
The Ghana Police Service has also warned anybody who wants to cause problems to stop doing so because they will take all necessary, professionally-driven steps to uphold the law and protect people and property.
