Ivan Kyei Innocent names 3 things that could have saved Ghana from going to the IMF
If Ghana focused on Agriculture, Industrialization and Creative Arts as sources of income, there would be national development. The plethora of crises the country is facing currently would have been inexistent or at least minimal had the nation given priority to those three areas, that is the thinking of famed social commentator Ivan Kyei Innocent.
In an interview with Agyenim Boateng on the Active Morning Show on Thursday, July 14, 2022, Ivan Kyei Innocent stated that “domestication is key”. He supported his claim by explaining that if Ghana could invest much into the industry of making more clothes ( Bonwire, Kente weaving), many people will come from different countries and places to purchase and also invest more.
Adding to that, he noted that Arts Centres in Ghana currently aren’t serving any good benefits any longer but should we have created a lot of movies and things which could attract people from other countries we would have been much richer or better still if we could keep them clean and neat we could use them as tourist attractions.
According to the maverick social commentator, agriculture should have been used as a tool to generate wealth for the country and make it independent but we rely more on political gimmicks than real issues thus failing to get maximum benefits from the industry.
He concluded by saying Ghana as a country needed to be bold and take a cue from former US President Donald Trump who decided to cut ties and focus on America by implementing the “America First” policy My Innocent Kyei then urged the government to do in order to build a Ghana for Ghanaians.
